Is EDGE Replay Superior to Hudl Sideline? - Sport Scope Video

Is EDGE Replay Superior to Hudl Sideline?

This year Hudl has been aggressively marketing their Sideline replay system as the premier sideline replay for high school football. However, we here at Sport Scope have been promoting our EDGE Replay in the same way. In our opinion, these are the two systems on the market that are going head to head. And as a result, you the coach will reap the benefits. Why?

We looked at replay systems like the Hudl Sideline and decided to make a device that is vastly more optimized for the purposes of replaying football game film on the coaches’ sideline. The EDGE Replay system is a step up in every way possible.

Simplicity

The EDGE 2-Angle system only requires one reliable network and it’s powerful enough to cover the entire field. The Hudl Sideline premium package requires two networks and a number of extra hidden parts. With EDGE Replay, each view only requires three main parts and minimal connections. So with Hudl not only do you have to deal with more components if something goes wrong, but there’s also the potential confusion with connecting to the proper Wi-Fi network. Not so with EDGE.

Dedicated Replay Device

The EDGE Replay comes with a device built from the ground up exclusively for replaying game film within seconds on your iPad. The Hudl Sideline uses a third-party streaming device that puts the burden on your iPad for processing high definition video clips for replay. The EDGE Replay’s custom-made recording box does all the work, making downloads faster and fantastic cohesion between hardware and software.

iPad App Features

Tagging your plays as ODK during the game is a must nowadays. Almost all replay systems have some ability to do this. But only EDGE Replay allows you to live tag the game with a virtual football field and easy drag and drop interface. And you can tag down, distance, hash, and the play outcome on the recorded clips themselves, making uploading data later absolutely hassle free. With Hudl Sideline you have to tag your extra play data on a separate app. This means any mistakes made will resort in frustration with synchronizing your tagged data with the right play clips.

And did we mention EDGE Replay is the only app that uses our tagged data to give you live in-game stats and opponent tendencies? Hudl Sideline gives you no such advantage.

Price

The EDGE Replay 2-Angle system has an up-front cost of $1,999. However, the annual software fee is only $499. Contrast this with the Hudl Sideline. Hudl’s premium two view package starts at $1500, which admittingly is lower than EDGE. But the annual software fee is the same price - $1500. So by year two you’re saving $500 with the EDGE. After 5 years the EDGE Replay 2 angle system will cost you $3,995. After 5 years the Hudl Sideline premium will cost you $7,500. The cost difference speaks for itself.

If you currently own the Hudl Sideline and have decided it’s time for a change, check out our Replay Exchange Program now!
