How Endzone Cameras Should Handle Windy Conditions

How Endzone Cameras Should Handle Windy Conditions

An Endzone Camera manufacturer should know that if they haven't reinforced their tower poles with the engineering required to handle harsh, outdoor environments, then they're setting up their product to fail. While it's true that all towers are susceptible to blowing over in the wind, some are more resilient than others.

American Made, Quality Frame

Whatever your program is and whatever sport you plan on using the Endzone Camera for, you can either purchase a cheap end zone tower to save money or something of quality. However, it must be properly stated how much easier these cheaper, flimsier tower frames can be blown over by the wind. On the contrary, a solid, American-made pole, produced by a company that also builds deployable military shelters, would seem a bit more trustworthy. Well that's exactly how we at Sport Scope get our towers. And yet we still provide our End Zone Camera systems at a very competitive price.

The Quadpod

Any of Sport Scope's 30' towers are going to be fitted with four locking legs for stability, rather than three. This gives our endzone camera telescoping poles extra resilience against the wind. Under normal game filming conditions, you probably won't need to use the provided ground stakes to secure the feet to the turf, but this is always recommended just as a precaution.

Using Sandbags

To reiterate on what was mentioned above, all endzone cameras are susceptible to being knocked over by strong gusts of wind. Therefore, there is some responsibility on part of the user to ensure that the tower is safely secured to the ground. We always recommend using our provided ground stakes for extra insurance, but if the ground surface has not made this an option or if gusting winds are especially forceful, the use of sandbags is also recommended. This is an efficient and inexpensive method of supplying weight to the legs and/or base plate. It is also advisable to lower your tower by a couple feet in order to combat the wind and excessive camera movement.
